Khanda in Sikhism
Khanda in Sikhism is used in my places it has been used with different forms and meanings, below I will try to discuss the brief concepts of the term KHANDA.
Definition of Khanda
Khanda firstly is used in Sri Dasam - Chandi Di Vaar.
Here Khanda means Hukam, from the Naam/Gain - Gurmat forms Hukam.
The Hukam is khanda which runs the world in 3 ways.
Khanda = Kaal, Maya, Againta.
When Lord Created the world, first he created these 3 things and then So Death would kill, Maya would break from the lord, and Againta would cause the war between the Gurmukh and Manmukh. Basicaly the concept of Bad and Good, Piri and Miri, which runs the world.
" Khanda in spiritual terms. "
Khanda is also used as a term to as the Sword of Wisdom, Gain Khadag, which does the Khandana(killing) of the demons inside. it kills the Kaam, karod, lobh mo and Hankar.

- Bicithar Natak - Sri Dasam.
The Khanda - Gainroopi sword which guru ji salute to and helps complete the granth, This is the most important definition of Khanda, which is lost. Because this Khanda will kill the real demons of mind.
- Kalki Avtar - Sri Dasam
Guru Ji in Kalki avtar writes, When naam comes to the Mind, then Kalki will be pargat, and with its large Sword ( Gain Khadag )- He will destory the Durmat and evil. Below a example given from Guru Grnath Shaib, to clear more doubts
With the sword of spiritual wisdom, kill the five demons. Remain awake and aware to the Guru's Teachings. - Adi Granth Shaib, 1414
"Khanda (Double Edge Sword) - Shaster "
In Sanskrit langauge Khandan and Khandana means death, and the give of death is a Khanda, which destorys and breaks in to bits. (खड्ग khaḍga) - Double Edged sword which is used in battle, the 2 edges repesent and refear back to the concept of Miri and Piri, the use of Weapon with a Mind of a Saint, so it protects not kills.
Below a passage from Peerchan Panth Parkash in the use of Khanda as a weapon.
(Singhan nai tau pharde hathiâr, karad katârîe tegh namsakâr.
kaî singhan bhang ghôtan pharde. sabh te muhrai sô hui kharde
Ordinary weapons had the Singh carried in their hands,
Which consisted of daggers, swords, double-edged swords.
Many a Singh just carried club grinders,
On the front line did they stand to make a supreme sacrifice)
- Sri Guru Panth Parkash - Rattan singh Bhangu - p696
"The modern Day Khanda Symbol"
In the modern era, 19 century, SPGC, use a symbol with 2 kirpana, chakkar and a Khanda in the middle, to repesent sikhi. THis is nor puratan, In the times of Dal Khalsa, a kattar, Dhaal and a Kirpan was found on Nishan Shaibs, No sign of the modern symbol .
Today people fight and argue pointlessly over this issue, we have lost the real meaning of Khanda, the Gain khadag and the weapon of Khalsa. We are week spiritualy and have no Gain, also we dont have any shasters to protect our selfs. Our people worry about the tattoo or a picture of the symbol instead of the deep history behind it.
So please dont use the symbol Khanda to go against things like CHand Tora, etc, because the real definition is much different from what we think it is.
